Introduced in 2021, the Grand Cherokee L is the first-ever three-row version of the popular Grand Cherokee mid-size SUV. It places Jeep in the lucrative marketplace for accessible upscale SUVs with seven or eight seats.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, the Grand Cherokee L gets updates to its options list: Limited and Overland can now be had with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5 navigation infotainment; Limited adds a nine-speaker Alpine stereo as an option; and Overland can be augmented with a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system.
Available Trims
Jeep offers the Grand Cherokee L in Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit trim levels. In all, standard power is from a 3.6L V6 engine, and eight-speed transmission, and four-wheel drive. Overland and Summit can be optioned with a 5.7L V8 engine.
Standard Features
Laredo comes with auto on/off LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone A/C, digital gauges, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and passive keyless entry.
Standard safety kit includes active lane management, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision mitigation, lane keep assist, rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, and trailer sway control.
Limited gains a power tailgate, automatic high beams, LED fog lights, remote engine start, an auto-dimming interior mirror, leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, a garage door remote, a 115-volt power outlet, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Overland adds air suspension with rear load levelling, approach lighting, power-folding side mirrors with driver’s side auto dimming, a dual-pane sunroof, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable steering column, nine-speaker audio, and front parking sensors.
Summit brings four-zone A/C, quilted leather seating, front seat cushion adjustments, massaging front seats, real wood trim, highway driving assist, intersection collision assist, park assist, surround-view cameras, and traffic sign recognition.
Key Options
In Laredo, you can add an altitude package of 20-inch wheels, power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, wireless phone charging, and a 115-volt power outlet.
An advanced pro tech group for Overland and Summit adds a cluster map display, head-up display, active driving assist, night vision, interior camera, intersection collision assist, and surround-view cameras.
The lux tech group brings rain-sensing wipers, 115-volt power outlet, power tailgate, wireless phone charging, and remote start. A lux tech II version gets a power steering column, ventilated front seats, rear window shades, a digital rearview camera, surround-view cameras, front/rear parking sensors, and intersection collision assist. A lux tech III pack gets upgraded front seats with massage, and four-zone A/C. And a lux tech IV bundle brings wireless charging and rear sun shades.
An off-road group consists of skid plates, a limited-slip rear differential, and trim-specific wheels.
Finally, a Summit Reserve package for Summit trim adds special leather seating, armrests, and door trim; walnut wood trim; suede pillars and headliner; ventilated front and second-row seats; a 10.25-inch front passenger touchscreen; 19-speaker McIntosh audio; and 21-inch wheels.
Fuel Economy
Jeep’s fuel consumption estimates for the Grand Cherokee L are 13.0/9.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for V6-powered models, and 16.7/10.9 L/100 km for V8 versions.
Competition
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is an alternative to the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, Lexus RX L, Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
